Ingredients

Why metric?

Metric avoids regional spoon ambiguity. US uses 5 mL tsp, 15 mL tbsp and 240 mL cup. Small masses stay in grams unless a verified recipe conversion exists. More on measurements

  • 320 g plain greek-style yoghurt
  • 250 g frozen mixed berries
  • 40 g almonds, roughly chopped
  • 2 g ground cinnamon
  • 30 g rolled oats

Method

  1. Toast the oats and almonds together in a dry pan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, until they smell nutty and have taken a little colour. They burn in the thirty seconds after that, so stay with the pan.
  2. Warm the berries with the cinnamon in a small pan for 3 minutes, until they slump and release their juice.
  3. Spoon the yoghurt into bowls, top with the berries and their juice, and scatter the toasted oats and almonds over.
  4. No honey or sugar goes in. The berries carry it, and this is the sort of breakfast where added sugar is easiest to leave out without missing it.

Cool and cover within two hours of cooking; split large amounts into shallow containers so they chill quickly. Reheat until steaming hot, at least 60°C.
